GIVEN TO THE WOMEN OF THE VILLAGE BY THE MISSES EDITH & ELLEN BECK

Our Story

The Women’s Hall was gifted to the women of Billingshurst in 1923 by Edith and Ellen Beck whose imposing portraits you can see in the hall. The sisters who were part of the suffragette movement and friends with Emily Pankhurst herself, followed this generous gift with the donation of the adjoining playground in 1926.
The Women’s Hall was initially set up to provide a safe space for women to meet and is now used by all sectors of the community.

Hire the hall

Situated in the beautiful West Sussex village of Billingshurst, the Women’s Hall can accommodate a wide variety of activities and functions. Whether your event is a children’s birthday party, a wedding reception, a fundraising evening, an exercise class, a regular community event or a simple meeting, we are sure the Billingshurst Women’s Hall will suit your needs.
It has been home to the Billingshurst Dramatic Society since the 1950s, with performances twice yearly. Wakoos breakfast and after-school clubs for children are run in the hall, as well as Music Bus sessions for preschool children and parents to enjoy musical activities.
